American Diabetes Association – Step Out To Fight Diabetes

Greetings Brothers,

It is time to get in full gear with our participation in the American Diabetes Association – Step Out To Fight Diabetes.  Please review the attached files which include the Diabetes Fundrasing Guidelines (77) and Team Summary Report (155).

My first appeal is for each Chapter Basileus to appoint a Team Captain, which could be the Chapter Social Action Chairman. The key to this appointment is to select a brother with at least basic computer skills. Your Chapter Team Captain should register your team with the walk site closest to your location. Chapter members must be committed to joining the team, solicit donations, and make a personal donation.  Each chapter in the Mighty Ninth District is requested to make a chapter donation as a team regardless of your proximity to a walk location. If your chapter can not form a team, please make donations through a chapter that has a team. Our goal is to have a chapter team in each of the walk locations listed below.  The State Reps covering the Ninth District Walk Locations are requested to encourage chapters to participate and form a team.

Brothers, we have to put forth a strong effort in supporting the ADA because of the following data:

• 3.2 million or 13.3% of all Black Americans aged 20 years or older have diabetes.

• Black Americans are 1.8 times more likely to have diabetes as non Hispanic whites.

• Twenty-five percent of African Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 have diabetes.

• One in four African American women over 55 years of age has diabetes.
