Brothers of the Mighty Ninth District,

Greetings in Omega!

As I provide you with my first update as Ninth District Representative, I want to, again, express my sincere thanks for your support.  I am truly humbled to be sitting in a place where such greatness once sat and I will do my best to live up to the performance of my predecessors and the expectations of you, the Brothers of the Mighty Ninth!

I want to give a special thanks to Bro. Shawn Brewer, 22^nd Ninth District Representative, for two things: 1) his service over the past 8 years on the Ninth District Council, especially the past 2 years as Ninth District Representative and 2) his level of cooperation and assistance in making the transition process a smooth one thus far.  Bro. Brewer has displayed true Brotherhood in looking out for the best interest of the district and the fraternity.

Below are some items from the past month that I thought would be of interest to you in this first communication.  So far, we have:

1. Completed two very successful, detailed transition sessions for the Ninth District Representative Office.
2. Established a “Council of Advisors”, composed of all of the Past Ninth District Representatives.
3. Per the Ninth District By-Laws, made appointments to fully staff the Ninth District Council.  The current council listing can be seen on the Ninth District Website at http://www.mightyninth.org/district-council/district-officers.  Assistants, State Reps, MSP Chairs and Committee Chairs are still being appointed / approved, with a target completion date of May 15, 2012.  Please continue to visit the Ninth District website at www.mightyninth.org for updated information.
4. Completed full integration into the Supreme Council and completed first Supreme Council Meeting.
5. Established standing meeting dates for monthly conference calls with the District Council, State Representatives and Chapter Basilei.  These groups represent the leadership of the district and it is important that we are in full alignment as we go forward.

Invest in Education

One of the foundational elements I have mentioned is the need for real development in some very key areas.  We are currently working with the State Representatives to establish, schedule and execute a “Summer School” Plan for our leaders, chapters and members.  This plan will be executed over the Summer 2012 so that we are fully developed for the Fall 2012.  Some aspects of the Summer School Plan include regional development on the Membership Selection Process (MSP), Special Events Checklist (SEC), Protocol and Parliamentary Procedures, Chapter Operations and Membership Code of Conduct.  These are critical foundational items that every member and chapter should have, at least at a basic understanding level, in order to be effective as a member and chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

As regional sessions are scheduled for your area, I would ask that all members make a commitment to participate.  We must be well versed in what is required of us by the fraternity in order to drive towards our goal of excellence.  Remember, not knowing is not an option.
